A long-delayed grant awards process finally concluded yesterday with the announcement that some $10 Million in grants would be awarded to the managers of New Jersey historic sites via the dedicated Garden State Historic Trust Fund. Among the highest awards was a grant to the Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium for $500,000, with a dedicated match of $500,000, for a total of $1,000,000.
\\\\\\\"This is a fantastic moment of accomplishment for the Friends,\\\\\\\" said Brian LoPinto, Board chair, \\\\\\\"but it is also a moment for all of Paterson to savor, particularly the Paterson Public Schools that have till now felt some uncertainty about direction for Hinchliffe. We know now that we\\\\\\\'ve been headed down the right path,\\\\\\\" he added.
The Friends are currently administering a previous $50,000 grant from the Trust for a conditions assessment of the stadium, a process now underway as part of a contract with Watson & Henry Associates of Bridgeton, New Jersey. The report of this firm will be used to guide the next steps for bringing the stadium back into use and ultimately for restoring some of its former glory and enabling it to continue to tell its great stories to future generations.
